The other day I looked back on my summer. I was disappointed in my three and a half months. I hadn’t done hardly any of the things that I had planned on. I had some good intentions this summer; road trips to visit friends in far places, camping trips, projects; all good stuff, and now all missed opportunities. So I focused on what I had done this summer. I had worked. Worked. Worked . worked. Oh, did I mention work? I got bummed out and was feeling a little low; I decided that I would tell myself to think about the fun I had the summer. It didn’t come to my mind in that moment with all the thoughts of forgotten plans so I thought long and hard and I realized I had done things. I had had fun. So here for you to see and for me to always remember; a list of things I did the summer of 2011
· Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 2
o Pretty much a highlight of my summer. Am I a Harry Potter nerd? Maybe, but not nearly as much as my stellar roommates who made this night as great as it was. We had midnight tickets, we had wands, we had costumes and for two hours, we had Harry Potter. P.S. one day I will marry Ronald Weasly. Shhh……
· Scraped knees and the wind in my hair
o My brother Donald was nice enough to give me his old long board that he never uses. I was more than excited and went out and tried it the night that I got it. Lucky for me my friend Shayn was already an avid long boarder so she showed me the ropes and we spent many a night longboarding to our hearts content. I will most likely not do too much long boarding this school year, seeing that I will be living in Logan. For those of you who don’t know, Logan is just one huge hill. Me + long board+ huge hill = Fear
· Dangling, not by choice.
o Donald took me rock climbing this summer. We were climbing some really easy rocks on the side of Wasatch Blvd. I was trying to get over my fear of heights; Donald was trying to be patient. At one point my ropes got stuck while I was climbing. I had no choice but to climb to the top ( something I wasn’t planning on doing) and undue the knots. I climbed with the knowledge that If I fell it would be a bad one, seeing as D couldn’t tighten the rope as I climbed. I am pretty sure my survival instinct must’ve kicked in because I don’t know how else I made it to the top. I did though, and I tell you I had never felt so good. I can see why people go rock climbing now, the adrenaline rush is outta this world!
· A literary genius
o OK, I am really not a literary genius. I would like to be though, I love to read. I used to hate reading with a fiery passion of a thousand suns. What made me change? It is sad to admit, but Twilight is what got me into reading. After I finished my vampire trilogy I just couldn’t stop and I have been reading a ton ever since. Twilight was a couple of years ago, but this summer I am still an avid reader. I have read the following books in the last three months:
§ The Help: By Kathryn Stocket
§ Jane Eyre By: Emily Bronte
§ Persuasion By: Jane Austen
§ The Perks of being a Wall Flower By: Stephen Chbosky
§ The Notebook By: Nicholas Sparks
§ Mythology By: Edith Hamilton
§ Water Elephants By: Sara Gruen
I have been mingling in some poetry and have about four books that I skim through here and there for a good poetry fix.
· Spray Paint and Sharpies
o Shayn and I one night decided on a genius plan to buy some white t-shirts from walmart, spray paint from the Home-depot and make ourselves some class A shirts. It was an adventure, needless to say. I made a shirt that said Peace. Love. Llama. It is pretty rad and I wear it all the time. I love love love llamas.
· A Family that Eats together Stays Together
o We have had quite a few family dinners this summer. BBQs, birthday parties, holidays and sometimes just for fun we came together and enjoyed ourselves over good food and in good company. I love my family and It is always fun to be with them. We had some good laughs and good times.
There are lots more but frankly I would be sick of reading this by now if I were you! :) Enjoy the rest of your summer!
