My my my, what a busy month has this march been! I have decided that spring break had the same effect as thanksgiving break. You come back to school after a week off and you are ready to be done for the rest of the year. Though summer fever is threatening to lower my grades I am holding on to what little patience I have left for school and hoping finals week comes faster than it should. I should actually be studying for a climate change test tomorrow but instead I am here updating you on my minimal life events. Studying is for squares anyway…
Let’s hit on the major events of March
Spring break
For lack of money and more adventurous resources I spent my spring break at home. It was nice to have a week off, and it was relaxing not have to do homework or worry about anything. For the larger part of my spring break I helped the parents pack their house. They recently bought a house up Rose Creek Canyon and during spring break a couple made an offer on their house, which they accepted. The highlights of the week? Sleeping in until nine or ten every morning and going to see the play A Tale of Two Cities at the Hale Center Theatre. The play was amazing!
Reading
This new found love of reading of mine is actually really awesome. I love to read which in the past has not always been the case. This month I have read four books.
The Atonement – Ian McEwan
The Hiding Place – Corrie Ten Boom
Lord of the Flies – William Golding
Scarlet letter – Nathanial Hawthorne
I also am half way through my fifth book, Fairest by Gail Carson Levine. I have recently acquired The Complete Poems of Emily Dickson. The book contains 1,775 poems. I have discovered that if I read thirty poems a day I can finish the book in roughly sixty days. I started reading it yesterday and I love it. I am kind of a nerd for poetry.
Just a shout out for anyone who hasn’t read The Hiding Place—do it. It was one of the most amazing books I have ever read.
St. Patrick’s Day
I have to admit that this year’s St. Patty’s day pretty much surpassed any other I have ever experienced. My roommates and I started the celebration by eating dinner at CafĂ© Rio. Dinner was followed by a trip to the grocery store which turned into three grocery store trips to find the perfect frosting. The three of us had about as big an adventure as one can have in a Wal-Mart super center. I lost a bet and was forced to yell Bob Saget extremely loud in the produce section. It was both enormously embarrassing and really awesome. All in all we spent three hours in various grocery stores, I don’t even know why we were there that long! When we got back to our apartment we watched the movie Tommy boy. Teah made a cake and it baked during the movie. When The cake was cooled we decorated it with green frosting and ate it with our hands. We were all laughing so hard. It was a total blast.
Cards
My roommates and I have a new found obsession for playing cards. I kid you not, we play every night for at least an hour and a half. We play canasta, gin rummy, golf, BS, spoons, killer spoons, or the occasional game of charades.
Moving and meeting
Last weekend I went home because my sister Whitney was in town for a visit. She brought with her, her boyfriend, Andrew. He is super nice though I was kind of disappointed by his lack of southern accent. Born and raised in Arkansas and the guy sounds like a Utahan most of the time. Other than the lack of accent Andrew was awesome. He is really nice and actually pretty funny.
Reason numero dos for going home was to help my parents move. This was the big and final move. They signed there house over on Friday, March 25, and had to be out by Monday. All Saturday was spent packing and hauling and moving boxes. Needless to say we were all exhausted by the time we were done. We spent a solid twelve hours moving. Ugh, long day.
Well, all that pretty much sums up my march. Not too exciting, eh? I also forgot to mention, I got a job for the summer. I am going to be working at the mosquito abatement with my brother. Crazy, eh? I will be abating black fly. We shall see how this goes!
Love and Rockets,
Sarah Elizabeth
